Nothing looks worse than an ad with a bad photo. Especially in martial arts ads, where the photo is very important. It's best to use photos of your own students, but the pictures you have may be too dark or too light. The background clashes with the student uniform and they reproduce poorly. You would like to use professional photos, but that can be costly. Don't worry, there is an answer. You can receive high quality professional photos of your students and actually make a few bucks, too! Have a professional photographer come to your school to take photos of your students. The photographer will pay you a commission (10-25%) for the opportunity to generate business through your school. Inform students in class, by newsletter, and/or letter that you are having picture day at your school on Saturday, March 9th at 2:00 (for example). All students are required to be photographed for school history and copies will be available in various sizes for a fee from the photographer. Students should be reminded to wash and press their uniform. At the top of a blank page of your school letterhead type "I give permission to use any photograph where I am presented individually or as part of a group for promotions or any other usage the school requires." Then have each student sign this form prior to their photograph being taken. It may be useful to have multiple sheets depending on the size of your school. The results should be a large variety of professional photos that will meet any advertising need. Here are a few additional pointers to ensure a smooth and profitable day. Negotiate with the photographer to receive a copy of each picture he takes. Be sure that you can easily receive duplicates from the photographer in the future in various sizes. Encourage group, couple, family, and friend shots. Do not pay cash in advance. Collect money from your students, which YOU hold until the pictures are delivered. An expert photographer should take pictures against a background that contrasts the uniform (white uniform, blue background). This will help when using the photos in ads. Good Luck!!
